Tech Bytes: Wireless Group Picks Consultant to Lead It

Sheila Mickool, a former executive of the banking software company Broadway & Seymour Inc., has been named president of a wireless technology consortium.

The group, the Universal Wireless Communications Consortium, represents more than 100 organizations that support the TDMA, or time division multiple access, technical standard.

TDMA is one of several competing wireless technologies, though the Universal Wireless group promotes interoperability with the GSM, or global system for mobile communications, standard that dominates Europe.

Ms. Mickool was most recently president of D. Garvey Corp., a consulting firm, and before that was senior vice president at Broadway & Seymour in Charlotte, N.C. She has also worked for AT&T Wireless Services and Automatic Data Processing Inc.

"The consortium believes that adding a dynamic, strategic-minded, people-oriented leader like Sheila will help accelerate our efforts to expand TDMA's global presence," said Chris Pearson, the group's director of marketing.
