In Brief: Calif. Software Firm Gets $15M Investment

The e-commerce software vendor EnCommerce Inc. said it has raised $15 million, in part to fund its expansion into the telecommunications and financial services markets.

The new investors include Novell Inc.; Entrepreneurs' Fund; Merrill Lynch KECALP, an employee-funded private-equity partnership; and Nomura International PLC.

EnCommerce said it also plans to use the proceeds to grow geographically. The two-year-old firm recently opened subsidiaries in Japan and the United Kingdom.

EnCommerce's European financial services customers include Nomura International and Egg, a London-based Internet bank that is a division of Prudential Banking PLC. Other customers include Bank of America and Visa International.
