SouthTrust Bank said it has named four presidents to head its most important business lines. All four are longtime SouthTrust executive vice presidents and already had primary responsibility for the areas they will lead as president.
Tom Coley, a 10-year SouthTrust veteran, was appointed president of retail banking, which includes all consumer credit.
Fred Crum is president of commercial banking, including middle-market and small-business loans. He has been with the $40 billion-asset company for 27 years.
Glenn Eubanks was named president of corporate banking. He had worked for SouthTrust since 1983.
Frank Schmidt, with SouthTrust for 35 years, is president of market banks, which include SouthTrust branches and automated teller machines.
The four officials report to chairman and chief executive officer Julian Banton.
"It's just an elevation in job titles, reflecting the very impressive history they've had with the company and in the industry," said Linda Baker, a bank spokeswoman. SouthTrust is the nation's 20th-largest banking company.
First USA to Issue a U S West Card
WILMINGTON, Del.-Bank One Corp.'s First USA credit card division has begun a partnership with U S West Communications to issue a cobranded card.
First USA is U S West's latest card issuer. The Phoenix-based telecommunications company terminated its relationship with Household Bank last December and had been seeking a new card partner.
The new product, a U S West e.card platinum Visa, offers cardholders 5% rebates for purchases made through select Internet merchants including Amazon.com, CDnow.com, and EToys.com.
It also incorporates a calling-card feature, Internet account access, and the ability to pay bills on-line.
Like other First USA platinum products, the card has no annual fee and comes with a 3.9% introductory interest rate on purchases and balance transfers. That rate jumps to 9.99% after five months.
