U.S. Bancorp has hired Martin Hurwitz to be managing director of its small- and mid-cap growth equity management team, the bank announced last week.
Mr. Hurwitz succeeded Sandra Shrewsbury who left May 1 to pursue other interests, a company spokeswoman said.
Mr. Hurwitz had been a vice president and senior portfolio manager at American Express Financial Advisors. He will oversee management of the bank's small- and mid-cap equity funds, as well as managed accounts totaling $700 million. The First American Funds have $32.1 billion of total assets.
Before his 12 years at American Express, Mr. Hurwitz was a senior analyst at Prescott, Ball and Turben of Chicago.
A onetime NASA scientist, Mr. Hurwitz has also taught a variety of college-level courses in finance, management, mathematics, and computer science.
