European American Bank in Uniondale, N.Y., has hired First Union Corp. executive Roger Childs to be a vice president in its leasing department.

Mr. Childs is to be in charge of funding investment-grade equipment lease transactions in the United States as well as providing single- investor funding for tax-oriented TRAC leases and the debt side of true leases. (A TRAC lease of motor vehicles or trailers contains a terminal rental adjustment clause and otherwise complies with the requirements of tax laws.) He will be based in Philadelphia and report to Frederick Anderson, senior vice president of leasing in Uniondale.

He joined a predecessor company of First Union in Philadelphia in 1977 and was most recently a vice president and manager of equipment leasing.
