In Brief: Golden State Names President of Auto Unit

Golden State Bancorp, the parent of California Federal Bank, has named Daniel Leonard president and chief operating officer of the thrift's automobile finance unit.

Mr. Leonard, a nine-year veteran of the $57 billion-asset company, had been a senior vice president in charge of consumer and business banking operations and services.The Dallas-based finance unit, Auto One Acceptance Corp., makes loans to consumers with tarnished credit through more than 800 franchised automobile dealers in 47 states.

Staff members who had reported to Mr. Leonard now report directly to executive vice president and retail banking director Peter Thomsen, Mr. Leonard's former boss. Mr. Leonard reports to Scott A. Kisting, the thrift's retail and business banking chief.
