Salomon to Offer Extended Trading Hours

Salomon Smith Barney Inc. said it will begin offering extended trading hours through New York firm MarketXT in the "near future."

The announcement by the Citigroup unit comes just days after Mellon Bank Corp.'s Dreyfus Brokerage and Discover Brokerage, a unit of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co., went live with a 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. trading session for retail investors. Both are discount brokers.

Salomon Smith Barney said it expects to be the first full-service brokerage to offer extended trading hours. The firm has 10,803 retail brokers, according to the Securities Industry Association.
