Capitol Bancorp in Lansing, Mich., and its affiliate Sun Community Bancorp in Tucson have hired David J. Dutton as chief information officer, a newly created position.
Mr. Dutton will lead the companies' information systems technology, combining their operations. He will be based in Phoenix and report to John Lewis, president of $160 million asset-Sun Community Bancorp; and Bruce Thomas, chief operating officer of $1 billion asset-Capitol Bancorp.
Mr. Dutton was executive vice president of the operations and technology group at Bank of Arizona in Phoenix until November, when Norwest Corp., now Wells Fargo & Co., bought it.
He began his career in operations at First Interstate Bank in Nevada and has 30 years of banking experience.
Capitol Bancorp, a multibank holding company formed in March 1988, owns a majority of Sun's common stock.
