In Brief: Fixed-Rate Mortgages Up for 2d Week in Row

the week that ended Sept. 10, up from 7.83% in the preceding week, according to a Freddie Mac survey.

It was the second consecutive week-to-week rise. A year earlier the same kind of mortgage averaged 6.77%. Rates on 15-year fixed-rate mortgages also rose, to 7.49% from 7.45% a week earlier and 6.43% a year earlier.

And so did one-year Treasury-indexed adjustables, to 6.21% from 6.18% a week earlier and 5.50% in the comparable 1998 week.
