Data Encryptor RSA and Parent Get Same Name

The identity of RSA Data Security Inc., the leading name in data encryption technology, is getting stronger.

RSA's parent, Security Dynamics Technologies Inc. of Bedford, Mass., announced Monday that it has renamed itself RSA Security Inc. The stock begins trading today under the RSAS ticker symbol.

The unified identity and branding are meant to bring under a single umbrella "leading capabilities in several categories of the security marketplace," said Scott Schnell, the parent company's senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

RSA's encryption systems, which have set standards for commercial data security, are embodied in the BSAFE product line. Security Dynamics, which acquired RSA three years ago and has been integrating operations in earnest for more than a year, has supplied five million SecurID authentication tokens for such uses as bank wire transfer security and corporate intranet and extranet access.

Together, the companies developed Keon, a full line of enterprise security systems that has just begun shipping in its 5.0 version. Included in the release was a cryptographic smart card, the SecurID 3100. -- Jeffrey Kutler
