Short Takes: Hartford Names Exec Chief of Investments

Brenda Furlong to be its chief investment officer and president of its Hartford Investment Management Co.

Ms. Furlong, 51, is to succeed Joseph Gareau, a 25-year company veteran who is leaving the company at yearend.

In her new posts, which begin Oct. 1, Ms. Furlong will oversee about $43 billion of invested assets for the parent company and $17 billion for the subsidiary.

Hartford Investment Management is an adviser to mutual funds, employee benefit plans, insurance companies, and other institutional accounts.

Ms. Furlong is currently senior vice president capital planning and development. Before joining the company in 1996 she was vice president and treasurer of Sheraton Corp. She also worked at ITT Corp. and State Street Bank and Trust.

Hartford Financial Services Group has assets of about $157 billion.
