Card Briefs: Union Planters Unveils Internet-Access ATM

Union Planters Corp. has installed its first Internet automated teller machine.

The installation, at the Union Planters administrative center in Cordova, Tenn., allows users to access additional account information from UPOnline, the bank's secure Internet banking service.

Union Planters, which as $34 billion of assets, plans to install more Internet-access ATMs in the Memphis area.

The technology was developed by Canton, Ohio-based Diebold Inc., a leading ATM manufacturer, and FundsXpress Inc. of Austin, Tex.

Eventually, Union Planters customers will be able to pay bills at any Internet ATM.
