In Brief: RSA Security, Verisign Ink a Marketing Deal

marketing and sales agreement with Verisign Inc., a leader in digital certificate and trust systems for electronic commerce.

The companies said the arrangement "significantly expands" a prior strategic relationship. Verisign began its life in 1995 as a spinoff of RSA Data Security Inc., the data encryption technology company that was acquired by Security Dynamics Technologies Inc. in 1997. The former Security Dynamics recently adopted the RSA Security name.

Verisign's OnSite services will be sold as part of the RSA Keon enterprise security framework. This increases customers' "flexibility in implementing and securing PKI (public key infrastructure) applications quickly and easily," said Security Dynamics president Art Coviello.

Stratton Sclavos, the president and chief executive officer of Verisign in Mountain View, Calif., said, "OnSite customers now can leverage the application integration, encryption, and single-sign-on features offered by Keon. In addition, the integration between our OnSite managed trust services and Keon security applications makes it even easier for enterprises to plug into a PKI backbone and rapidly secure their e-commerce applications."

In a related announcement, RSA Security said 3Com Corp., Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., and Hewlett-Packard Co. had become charter members of the Keon Ready program, signifying its ability to interoperate across many computer systems and software. Keon meets the requirements of "open, standards-based solutions" that companies like these support, said Hewlett-Packard Internet security division general manager Roberto Medrano.
