BankBoston Names New England Retail Exec

BankBoston Corp. promoted Gail Snowden to executive vice president and regional executive in its New England retail market, the bank announced Thursday.

She succeeds R. Nelson "Oz" Griebel, who is leaving the bank on Feb. 15 to become president and chief operating officer of MacDermid Inc., a specialty chemicals and systems company in Waterbury, Conn. He has been with the bank for 22 years.

Ms. Snowden, a 30-year veteran of the bank, will join BankBoston's executive management group, which comprises the corporation's top 35 executives. She will report to vice chairman Bradford H. Warner.

Ms. Snowden will oversee five regional executives as well as business development and customer service in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

Ms. Snowden is currently in charge of BankBoston's community banking group, which includes BankBoston Development Co., the nation's first bank- chartered urban investment bank, and First Community Bank, a 42-branch network in southern New England that focuses on low- and moderate-income individuals and small businesses.

She will retain those duties in her new role, the bank said.

Mr. Griebel was also president of the bank's western region, which includes Western Connecticut and Massachusetts. William Parent will succeed him in that position.

Mr. Parent, who has been director of mergers and acquisitions, will move from Boston to Connecticut in that assignment. The bank said Mr. Parent will focus on building BankBoston's market presence in southern New England, particularly the southern Connecticut region.
