Short Takes: U.S. Bancorp Shuffles Brokerage Unit Execs

individual investor services unit. Eugene McGowan, 63, director of sales development, will add the position of chief operating officer to his duties. He will be responsible for all branch business operations.

Mr. McGowan will continue to serve on the operating committee of the individual investor services unit. Joel Black, 39, formerly senior administrator manager for Evangelical Lutheran Church of America's board of pensions, has been hired to the new position of director of finance. Mr. Black will be responsible for budget planning and financial affairs for individual investor services and will serve on the unit's operating committee.

U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray, the brokerage subsidiary of Minneapolis-based U.S. Bancorp, is the 11thlargest brokerage in the U.S. and was formed when U.S. Bancorp bought Piper Jaffray Cos. in 1998.
