Washington Mutual Inc. Names Executives

Washington Mutual Inc. in Seattle has hired Joel Calvo to be executive vice president for financial services.

Mr. Calvo was president of Main Street Trading Co. in California. Earlier he was president and chief executive officer of the capital markets and brokerage subsidiaries of PNC Bank Corp. Before that he was senior vice president and director of marketing and sales at Bank of America's global private bank.

At Washington Mutual, he is to be responsible for the financial services division, including its group of funds, insurance services, advisers, administration, and finance. Mr. Calvo will report to Craig Davis, president of the mortgage banking financial services division.

The thrift company has $175 billion of assets.
