U.S. Bancorp Names Executives

U.S. Bancorp in Minneapolis has hired Gail N. Maier to head its consumer credit and business card function in the retail payments unit of the payment systems division and promoted two other executives in the division.

Ms. Maier succeeded Alan Ellison who has taken a post as head of retail credit products at the company.

She was owner-operator of Four Dimensions Holding Inc., an Oakland, Calif., maker of customized home storage systems. Earlier she was executive vice president of global retail banking at Bank of America.

The Minneapolis banking company promoted Robert T. Abele to head corporate payment systems, which sells corporate card and purchasing card programs to businesses and the government.

Mr. Abele was senior vice president of the division's network services unit. Earlier he worked at Fidelity Bank in Philadelphia. He succeeds Steven M. Putney, who took a job at Paysys International Inc., an Atlanta software firm.

Margaret A. Utke-Christianson succeeds Mr. Abele as senior vice president of network services. She has worked 20 years at the company, most recently as vice president and delivery integration manager in the ATM division.

U.S. Bancorp has $77 billion of assets.
