Card Briefs: MasterCard Promotes Two to Top Asia Posts

MasterCard International has promoted J. Sonny Sannon and Willie Fung to senior posts in Asia.

Mr. Sannon, senior vice president and general manager for Southeast and South Asia, and Mr. Fung, who has the same titles in China, are part of a revamped team under Andre Sekulic, who became Asia-Pacific president last year.

Mr. Fung was previously vice president and country manager for Taiwan, which he now oversees along with Hong Kong and China. "The phenomenal growth in MasterCard's Taiwan business can be largely attributed to Willie's superb leadership," Mr. Sekulic said.

Mr. Fung worked for BankAmerica Corp. and Wells Fargo & Co. before establishing MasterCard's Taiwan presence in 1992.

Mr. Sannon has spent 12 years at MasterCard. He is expanding his previous South Asia purview-India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh-to include Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

Mr. Sannon succeeded Don Van Stone, who after five years in the post was named senior vice president and managing director for MasterCard's Middle East and Africa region.
