Short Takes: First Union Kid-Only Account on Web Site

Internet.

Cap -- short for capital management -- was launched in 1986 and was one of the first all-in-one checking and investing products. A version for both adults and children that required a $2,500 investment was begun in 1996. The children's version, Cap First for Kids, is available without annual fees.

The Internet site features games that children can play to learn about investing, handling finances, and balancing a budget.

There are also contests about topics such as managing a portfolio and figuring the cost of college, braces, and movie tickets.

The goal of the site is to familiarize youngsters with First Union's services and products, including its cash management account for children, the company said.
