Washington People: Alphabet Soup: B of A Exec Takes New Position at ABA

has been named director of eStrategies, a new position at the American Bankers Association.

Mr. Schutze, who was project manager for Bank of America's eCheck initiative, will oversee development of the ABA's electronic commerce policy and its positions on related legislative issues.

"Steve has all the qualities we are looking for in a new director to launch ABA's eStrategies department," said Donald G. Ogilvie, ABA executive vice president. "His leadership in industrywide projects and background in alternative retail delivery systems will prove invaluable."

The Senate Finance Committee confirmed Neal S. Wolin as Treasury Department general counsel. If approved by the full Senate, Mr. Wolin would succeed Edward S. Knight, who left the agency in July to become executive vice president and chief legal officer of the National Association of Securities Dealers family of companies.

Mr. Wolin has been the Treasury's deputy general counsel since 1995. Before joining the Treasury, he had served as legal adviser to the National Security Advisor, National Security Council, and the Central Intelligence Agency.

Gregory C. Golembe has joined the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency as senior advisor for special projects. His job as executive director of the American Association of Bank Directors reverts to David H. Baris, managing partner at the banking law firm of Kennedy, Baris & Lundy, who had the job before Mr. Golembe.

The Organization for a New Equality on Nov. 3 will award its Medal of Hope to Ira A. Jackson, BankBoston Corp.'s former executive director of corporate and community affairs. Mr. Jackson was the bank's face as well as a force in the Boston community, overseeing its reinvestment activities, government relations, philanthropy, and public relations. He left BankBoston after its acquisition by Fleet Financial Group to rejoin the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University as a joint fellow.
