In Brief: Visa U.S.A. Elects U.S. Bancorp Exec

Visa U.S.A. Inc. has elected Philip G. Heasley, president and chief operating officer of U.S. Bancorp, chairman of its board of directors.

Mr. Heasley, 50, joined Visa's 14-member board last year. At U.S. Bancorp of Minneapolis he is in charge of retail banking operations, including the payment systems business. U.S. Bancorp is a leading commercial card issuer, and the largest issuer of Visa purchasing cards.

Mr. Heasley succeeds William P. Boardman, 58, senior executive vice president of Bank One Corp., who was elected chairman of Visa U.S.A. in 1998 but was named chairman of Visa International this year. -- Jennifer Kingson Bloom
