Novell VP Joins Group For a Wallet Standard

Mike Sheridan, vice president of strategic business at Novell Inc., has become a member of the consortium promoting the Electronic Commerce Modeling Language, a proposed standard for digital wallets.

Mr. Sheridan joined executives from such companies as American Express Co., MasterCard International Inc., Visa International, Sun Microsystems Inc., Compaq Computer Corp., Trintech Group, Cybercash Inc., and Brodia Group on the ECML board.

"The goal of the digital wallet initiative is to reduce the purchase hassle, which currently involves filling out many forms" on merchant screens, Mr. Sheridan said.
