Card Briefs: Furniture Chain to Get Multifunction ATMs

agreement to install its multifunction ATM-X machines in Rent-Way stores in the western United States.

Driven by Cash Technologies' EMMA transaction processing platform, the ATM-X machines will enable customers of the furniture and appliance chain to cash checks, pay bills, buy prepaid phone cards, and take advantage of standard automated teller machine functions.

In addition, the machines permit the purchase of products and services with cash. The company said this will be of particular value to Rent-Way customers who make their weekly rental payments in person.

The company expects to run a test at three or four stores in November. The sites have not been decided on. If the tests succeed, machines would be deployed throughout the Rent-Way chain during 18 months. Rent-Way, based in Erie, Pa., has 1,116 stores in 41 states under the brand names RentWay and Home-Choice Rentals.
