In Brief: Warburg Hires Former BT Bond Exec

Arthur Penn has joined the leveraged finance group at Warburg Dillon Read LLC, the U.S. investment banking arm of UBS AG, Europe's second-largest bank, about four months after leaving the former Bankers Trust Corp.

Mr. Penn, 36, was appointed Tuesday as global co-head of leveraged finance at Warburg Dillon Read, covering leveraged buyout activity, bank loans, and high-yield bonds in the United States.

He was head of global fixed-income capital markets at BT's Alex. Brown securities unit. He was one of several bond executives fired in June after Deutsche Bank AG bought Bankers Trust Corp. for $9 billion to create the world's biggest financial services company.

Mr. Penn will share his new title with Brian Keelan, a 10-year veteran of SBC Warburg and Swiss Bank Corp. in London. As co-head of leveraged finance, Mr. Keelan will return to London from New York to cover European business.

Mr. Penn and Mr. Keelan will report to John Costa, global head of fixed income, and Rory Tapner, SBC Warburg's global co-head of corporate finance.
