Card Briefs: UBS Using Software From Germany's iXOS

UBS Card Center, a major Swiss bank card company, has installed the iXOS Archive document management system, according to iXOS Software of Germany.

The unit of UBS Bank said it expects to save time and money in credit card issuance, customer service, and settlement and processing of transactions. Card center staff members have access to all cardholder account information and documents from workstations running on the SAP R/3 enterprise resource planning system.

The iXOS software enables paper documents, scanned at the rate of 12,000 a day and linked to R/3 programming objects, to be stored as retrievable images.

"Document retrieval used to be a laborious task that often meant lengthy delays for customers," said Sonja Huber, manager of information technology application development at UBS. "Now, when a customer calls, the staff member can look up the relevant material while they are on the phone and view the original documents on screen."
