Card Briefs: Card Billing Service Is Offered to Airlines

Air Travel Card said it has joined forces with the financial software company QSP Inc. and National Processing Co. to offer an outsourced card billing service to airlines.

A joint venture, InControl, processes Air Travel Card receivables and account billing information. It claims to be better than competing programs in that it is compatible with both mainframe and client/server approaches, handles inter-line accounting and settlements, and accommodates international value-added tax calculations.

The venture also emphasized that its neutrality should make clients in the highly competitive airline business comfortable with it. It should appeal to "numerous airlines that previously found developing their own billing systems to be cost-prohibitive or are searching for a more cost-effective way to process Air Travel Card transactions," said Richard Crum, managing director of the consortium that introduced the travel card in 1936.

National Processing Co., a subsidiary of National City Corp. of Cleveland, is a known quantity in the airline industry as processing and settlement agent for about 80% of all tickets sold in the United States.
