In Brief: Internet Firms Hire MasterCard, Citi Execs

Two two-year-old Internet ventures, Zona Financiera and eCharge Corp., each said Tuesday that they had recruited senior executives from traditional banking industry posts.

Zona Financiera, a Fairfax, Va., company that that operates a financial portal site for Latin American consumers, hired Richard Child of MasterCard International as executive vice president and head of business development, marketing, and sales. He reports to chief executive officer Greg Keough.

Mr. Child was president of MasterCard's Latin America and Caribbean region.

Seattle-based eCharge, an on-line payments processor, named Citibank veteran Truett Tate its CEO. Mr. Tate spent most of the years since 1972 in global corporate banking positions, most recently as group executive responsible for the global corporate and investment bank's marketing division. He also supervised the heads of emerging-market regions.

Ron Erickson, the former CEO, became chairman of eCharge. Day-to-day management falls to Mr. Tate and chief financial officer Mark Tremont, who was hired from Visa International in August.
