NationsBank Will Pay $9 Million to Settle Suit

NationsBank, a unit of Bank of America Corp., has agreed to pay $9 million to settle a class action over bounced check fees.

The suit focused on alleged nondisclosure of the bank's policy of processing the biggest checks first, which critics say leads to more bounced check and overdraft fees.

The bank did not admit liability. "We believe that our policy was correct and we did not change our policy," said NationsBank spokesman Gordon Turner. "All we have done is change the way we notify customers of the policy." -- Marc Hochstein
