Cards Briefs: Trintech Has Deals With Sun and Unisys

The payments software company Trintech Group has announced alliances with two computer industry powers.

Trintech said that through an agreement with Sun Microsystems Inc. payment packages such as PayWare Net, PayGate, and NetIssuer will be readily ported to Sun Enterprise server hardware and the Solaris Operating Environment.

Typically, Sun systems will be able to process payments through the Visa Internet Payment Gateway, which has Trintech technology at its core. The Trintech software can work with both the Secure Electronic Transaction and Secure Sockets Layer protocols.

Trintech also said that it will supply electronic payment capabilities for Unisys Corp.'s electronic business initiative. The agreement includes a joint marketing arrangement and "skills transfer program" to take advantage of Unisys' financial industry systems-integration expertise.

Trintech chief executive officer John McGuire said Sun "makes our broad range of Internet payment products available to a broader group of e-commerce participants." He said the "business synergies" with Unisys "make this a natural partnership."
