Fleet Mortgage Correspondent Loan Unit Hires Sales Manager

Fleet Mortgage Group in Columbia, S.C., has hired Thomas S. Palmer to be senior vice president and national sales manager of the correspondent lending division.

Mr. Palmer is to be responsible for expanding correspondent market share through Fleet's eight regions, and he will report to James F. Jandrisevits, senior vice president of correspondent lending.

Mr. Palmer was a partner and executive vice president at Chicago-based WestAmerica Mortgage Co., where he was responsible for expanding the company's retail and wholesale production divisions as well as developing a correspondent lending program. Earlier he was a senior vice president of correspondent lending at Resource Bancshares Mortgage Group in Columbia. He has 20 year of mortgage banking experience.

MIDDLE ATLANTIC

Ernst & Young LLP in New York has promoted Dale Wartluft to senior vice chairman in charge of Ernst & Young Consulting Services Americas.

He succeeded Terry Ozan, who had earlier been promoted to chief executive officer of Ernst & Young Consulting Worldwide.

Since 1997, Mr. Wartluft had been a vice chairman of the company's global client consulting unit, which focuses on companies with offices in more than one country. He reported to Mr. Ozan, as he will also do in his new job.

Mr. Wartluft is also a member of Ernst & Young's management committee and its global consulting services executive committee. He joined the firm 14 years ago and has held posts including vice chairman of its global and Americas markets, national director of systems planning and delivery, and managing director of the East/Great Lakes consulting group. Earlier he worked 20 years at International Business Machines Corp.

SOUTHEAST

Wachovia Corp. in Winston-Salem, N.C., has promoted Terry W. Edwards to senior vice president of its Wachovia Bank subsidiary.

Mr. Edwards is a senior tax analyst in the finance and treasury group of the $63 billion-asset bank. He was hired in 1989 as a tax analyst and was promoted in 1995 to vice president. He assumed his current post in 1997.

WEST

Bank of the West in San Francisco, a unit of BancWest Corp. of Honolulu, has hired John B. Sizemore, Richard C. Farley, and Ruby S. Tom to be vice presidents.

Mr. Sizemore was a vice president and manager of account officers at Bank of America Corp., which bought his previous employer, Valley Bank of Nevada, in 1997. He had worked at Valley for 28 years. At Bank of the West he will manage business banking in the Reno and Carson City, Nev., area and will report to Frank J. Bonetto, executive vice president of community banking.

Mr. Farley was a vice president and agricultural loan officer at $154 million-asset Butte Community Bank in Chico, Calif. Earlier he worked six years at $108 million-asset North State National Bank there. At Bank of the West he will be a business development officer and report to Scott Germer, executive vice president of corporate banking.

Ms. Tom was a vice president at Union Bank of California. At Union she managed the Urban Enterprise Banking Center. At Bank of the West she will be a senior loan examiner.
