Card Briefs: Capital One Sets Seattle-Area Processing Hub

Capital One Financial Corp. plans to open a 24- hour credit card processing center in the Seattle suburb of Federal Way, Wash.

The 130,000-square-foot center, Capital One's first on the West Coast, is expected to employ 500 people by 2001. A temporary facility, a mile from the permanent site, will open in May, the company said.

Capital One has offices in Virginia, Florida, Texas, and the United Kingdom.

Richard D. Fairbank, chairman and chief executive officer, said Capital One is adding 20,000 customers a day. The Seattle-area facility "will help us maintain our high levels of service to our existing customers and allow us to support our future growth into new markets and new industries."
