In Brief: MBNA Unit Appoints a Vice Chairwoman

MBNA America Bank NA, a subsidiary of MBNA Corp., on Tuesday named Michelle D. Shepherd vice chairwoman in charge of advertising, data base, and mail marketing. She also joined the card company's executive committee.

Ms. Shepherd had been division president in charge of advertising, marketing, and Internet initiatives. In her new position she will no longer be responsible for MBNA's Internet activities.

Ms. Shepherd, 33, who reports to John Cochran, executive vice chairman and chief marketing officer, is one of seven vice chairmen. An 11-year veteran of MBNA, Ms. Shepherd is the top ranked female executive of the company.
