In Brief: Certicom Releases Wireless Security Kit

Certicom Corp., champion of the elliptic curve method of cryptography and a leading provider of secure sockets layer data encryption for Internet commerce, said it has released a tool kit for wireless information services.

The system-developer kit, WTLS Plus, aims at the exploding market for delivering secure financial and other services to mobile phones, Palm organizers, smart cards, and other hand-held devices.

The Certicom program conforms to a standard put forth by the WAP Forum, the governing body of the wireless application protocol, which has been widely embraced in the computing and telecommunications industries. TLS stands for transaction layer security, the upgraded version of the secure sockets layer protocol.
