Executive Changes: Chief Operating Officer Named at Standard Federal Bank

Standard Federal Bank in Troy, Mich., has named Joseph Krul to the newly created post of chief operating officer.

He remains an executive vice president and chief of risk management but relinquished his role as chief financial officer to senior vice president Michael R. Maher, who was controller.

Mr. Krul joined the bank in 1985 as an accountant. He became controller and a senior vice president in 1988, chief financial officer in 1990, and chief of risk management and an executive vice president in 1997.

Standard Federal, a subsidiary of Netherlands-based ABN Amro, has $19 billion of assets.


MIDDLE ATLANTICMellon Financial Corp. in Pittsburgh has promoted Jeffrey McSteen, a senior business development officer, to vice president.

Before moving to the business development department, Mr. McSteen was a relationship manager in the middle-market banking department. He joined the company in 1991.

Mellon Financial Corp. has $46.5 billion of assets.


KPMG LLP has hired Elyse Schindler-Candella as the property-tax manager of its state and local tax practice in the New York City area.The practice advises pension funds, financial services firms, and real estate investment companies.

Ms. Schindler-Candella, 36, was a property tax manager at Deloitte & Touche. Earlier she was a senior attorney at the Siegel Finchel & Peddy law firm in Garden City, N.Y. Still earlier she was a staff attorney in the real property assessment bureau of New York City's Department of Finance.


SOUTHEASTWachovia Corp. in Winston-Salem, N.C. has promoted James F. McCreary to the rank of group executive in its Wachovia Corporate Services Inc.

Mr. McCreary, a senior vice president, retains the duties he assumed in January as one of three group managers in the unit's U.S. corporate finance division. He is based in Atlanta.

He joined the company in 1989 as a relationship manager and was named a senior loan administration officer and a vice president in 1993 and a sales team manager and senior vice president in 1996.

The company also promoted Tina H. Wilkinson to a senior vice presidency in Wachovia Corporate Services.

Since July, Ms. Wilkinson has been a senior loan administration officer in the global corporate finance group.

She joined the company in 1989 as a corporate management associate in Winston-Salem, transferred to Atlanta in 1992 as a loan administration officer, and was promoted in 1994 to relationship manager and vice president.


Hibernia National Bank in New Orleans has hired Rachel Ramsey and Michael R. Geissler as vice presidents.Ms. Ramsey will be a commercial line of business controller. She was an accountant at Washington-based Giant Food Inc. and has 12 years of accounting experience.

Mr. Geissler will be an asset portfolio manager in the asset-based lending division. He came from Mellon Bank in Philadelphia and has 27 years of banking experience.

Hibernia has also promoted assistant vice presidents Tammy Angelety and Patty Hable to vice president.

Their responsibilities did not change.

Ms. Angelety is a portfolio manager in the special assets division; she joined the bank in 1993 and has six years of financial experience.

Ms. Hable manages the field exam staff and supervises on-site collateral examinations in Hibernia's commercial finance services division.

She joined Hibernia in 1997 and has 12 years of banking experience.

Hibernia has $15 billion of assets.
