Bank of N.Y. Offering Check Imaging on Net

NEW YORK - Bank of New York has added Internet check image retrieval to its line of cash management services.The enhancement lets corporate customers retrieve and view images of paid checks using Internet browsers.

"Internet-based imaging technology will benefit our customers by providing detailed images for exception-item examination, reducing storage costs for paper checks, and permitting timely responses to payment inquiries," said James L. Hendrickson, senior vice president and product management division head at Bank of New York.

The offering will probably be imitated by other banks that offer cash management products and services, said Lawrence Forman, an analyst at Ernst & Young.

"There are not many banks that are doing this," he said. "In the next few years, it will become commonplace."


First Union Trying Out Telecommuter Software

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - First Union Corp. is testing streaming audio/video software from Citrix Systems Inc. to let its work-at-home employees gain access to information.Companies use the VideoFrame software to disseminate such programming as sales presentations, training, education, and messages.

Employees can call up video applications on demand. Administrators can manage multiple VideoFrame servers, media streams, and published content across the enterprise from a single site.

First Union of Charlotte, N.C., also uses Citrix's MetaFrame product with its Program Neighborhood software to allow remote access to mission-critical applications.


Deutsche Picks System To Manage Computers

MUNICH - Deutsche Bank has agreed with Tivoli Systems Inc., an International Business Machines company, to install Tivoli Enterprise software to help the bank manage its global operations.Tivoli Enterprise is to be adopted in 60 countries and manage more than 8,000 OS/2, Windows NT, and Unix servers and more than 80,000 personal computers. Deutsche Bank said it expects Tivoli Enterprise to let it redeploy information technology employees to core business activities from systems maintenance and upgradings
