Executive Changes: Ford Credit Names Korman To Head Its Counsel Office

Ford Motor Credit Co. in Dearborn, Mich., has appointed former Bank One Corp. official David L. Korman its general counsel.

Mr. Korman, 42, joined Ford Credit in September as a potential successor to Jerry Bringard who retired as general counsel 18 months ago.

Mr. Korman had been assistant general counsel and national practice group manager in the law department at Bank One. Before that he worked 15 years as senior legal counsel at First National Bank of Chicago, which is now part of Bank One.

He reports to Don Winkler, chairman and chief executive officer of Ford Credit, and to John Rintamaki, vice president and general counsel of the parent Ford Motor Co.


MIDDLE ATLANTIC

Merck & Co. in Whitehouse Station, N.J., has elected William B. Harrison Jr., president and chief executive officer of Chase Manhattan Corp., to its board of directors, effective Dec. 31.Mr. Harrison is to become chairman and CEO at Chase on Jan. 1. He was promoted to president and CEO June 1. He was named vice chairman of Chase Manhattan in 1996 upon its merger with Chemical Banking Corp., where he had been vice chairman.

He also is a director of Dillard Department Stores, Little Rock, Ark., and Banco General de Negocios, Buenos Aires.

Merck is a global pharmaceutical company.


U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray in Minneapolis has hired Terrence Tierney to be a senior analyst in the New York office of its equity research department.Mr. Tierney is to cover e-services on the brokerage's technology team. He was a project manager at Sapient Corp., a New York e-business consulting company. Earlier he was a research associate, covering the information technology services sector, for J.P. Morgan & Co. in New York and, before that, a project manager at Marsh & McLennan in New York.

Mr. Tierney is to report to Thomas Schreier, director of equity research at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray, the investment banking arm of U.S Bancorp.


SOUTHEAST

Comerica Bank has hired Mary Jo Buchanan to be a business development officer with the rank of assistant vice president in its Boca Raton, Fla., business credit lending group.Ms. Buchanan was a business development manager at Deutsche Financial Services, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bank Group. She has made asset-based business loans in the Florida market for three years.

Comerica Bank is a subsidiary of $37.2 billion-asset Comerica Inc. in Detroit.


WEST

Bankers Trust Private Banking has hired Aaron R. Sokol to be a relationship manager and vice president in Los Angeles.The private banking operation is part of the Deutsche Bank group that offers financial services to affluent customers.

Mr. Sokol was a portfolio manager and vice president at Scudder Kemper Investments Inc. in Los Angeles. Earlier he was an assistant vice president at First Chicago Capital Markets Inc. Before that he worked in the corporate finance department at Nationsbank Capital Markets Inc.
