David Hood Named CEO Of Cupertino National Bank

Greater Bay Bancorp in Palo Alto, Calif., has named David R. Hood, the president of its Cupertino National Bank, to be the bank's chief executive officer as well.

He succeeded C. Donald Allen, who remains chairman of the Cupertino National board and a consultant to the holding company.

Mr. Hood is also chief lending officer and an executive vice president at Greater Bay. He has been president of Cupertino National Since November 1998; he joined it in 1995 as an executive vice president. Earlier he was president of University Bank and Trust in Palo Alto, Calif.

Cupertino National Bank has $943 million of assets; Greater Bay has $2.3 billion.


NEW ENGLAND

Eastern Bank in Lynn, Mass., has hired Brenda Dowling and Laura Goonan as vice presidents in its treasury services department.Ms. Dowling came from the cash management sales division of Fleet Bank. She has 13 years of treasury services experience.

Ms. Goonan came from U.S. Trust, where she worked three years. Earlier she was in the treasury service sales division at BayBank. She has 18 years of treasury services experience.

Eastern Bank, a subsidiary of Eastern Bank Corp. in Lynn, has $2.8 billion of assets.


MIDWEST

Star Financial Bank in Fort Wayne, Ind., has hired Thomas G. Blume as president of its Fort Wayne region.Mr. Blume succeeded Sherri Miller, who was promoted to senior vice president of strategic development for the holding company, Star Financial Group.

Mr. Blume was president of the northeast Indiana region of NBD Bank, which Bank One bought this year. He began his career in 1970 at Indiana Bank and Trust, an NBD predecessor.

Star Financial Bank has $1 billion of assets.


MIDDLE ATLANTIC

Warwick Savings Bank in Warwick, N.Y., has named Ronald J. Gentile, its president and chief operating officer, to be chief executive officer as well.He succeeds Timothy A. Dempsey, who remains chairman of the bank as well as chairman and chief executive officer of its holding company, Warwick Community Bancorp.

Mr. Gentile joined the bank in 1990 and has been a director since 1991. Earlier he worked 20 years as a senior bank examiner for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

Warwick Savings Bank has $562 million of assets.


SOUTHEAST

First Virginia Banks in Falls Church has promoted senior vice president Richard Bowman, its treasurer and chief financial officer, to an executive vice presidency.Mr. Bowman joined First Virginia in 1975 as a senior auditor. He has been treasurer and chief financial officer since 1992 and was named a senior vice president in 1994.He reports to Barry J. Fitzpatrick, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of the $9.4 billion-asset holding company.


SOUTHWEST

Guardian Savings and Loan Association in Houston has hired James S. D'Agostino Jr. as chairman, president, and chief executive officer.He succeeded Robert F. Parker, Guardian's principal shareholder, who left to start a new enterprise.

Mr. D'Agostino was vice chairman of consumer finance at American General Financial Group in Houston.

Before joining American General in 1986, he worked 10 years at Citibank.

Guardian Savings has $800 million of assets.
