In Brief: GMAC Affiliate Buys Bay State Realty Firm

Carlson Real Estate, a unit of GMAC Home Services, announced recently that it bought Stearns & Yerrall Inc. Realtors from Palmer-Goodell Cos., Springfield, Mass.

The transaction is a key to GMAC's commitment to be the largest full- service real estate organization in New England, said Allen Sabbag, president of GMAC's real estate division.

Mr. Sabbag said the company projects that the deal will give it 35% market share in western Massachusetts, with sales volume of more than $350 million.

The purchase increases the number of Carlson Real Estate offices to 54. The division will operate as Landry, Lyons, Stearns & Yerrall.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Carlson Real Estate, recently bought by GMAC Home Services, is the second-largest Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Service firm, with 1998 sales volume that was projected at $2.2 billion.
