Tech Bytes: Fingerprint ID Firm Widens Compatibility

The fingerprint authorization vendor Biometric Identification Inc. said its ridge recognition algorithms and silicon fingerprint verification sensors have been aligned with the Biometric Application Programming Interface, or BAPI.

As a result, Biometric Identification's systems are compatible with Microsoft Windows 95/98 systems and smart card interfaces, which standards such as BAPI are designed to promote.

Biometric Identification collaborated with I/O Software Inc. of Riverside, Calif., on the software integration with I/O's SecureSuite.

"Our shared technology provides a highly secure authorization and verification scheme that will safeguard access to Internet, intranets, local area networks, electronic commerce, virtual private networks, and other sensitive data applications," said Biometric Identification chief executive officer Bob Kamm.

I/O Software CEO William Saito said the Bio ID silicon sensor and ridge recognition technologies strengthen his product offerings and "could set the standard for the next century."
