Tech Bytes: Nine New Customers For Unicert System

Baltimore Technologies has announced the signings of nine commercial certificate authorities to use its Unicert system.

The company, formerly based in Dublin, has been merged into Zergo Holdings PLC and is operating under the Baltimore name. It has been especially strong in Europe.

Last week it said Unicert was chosen for a European Commission document security system, working with PricewaterhouseCoopers. But Baltimore is also showing signs of infiltrating Asia-Pacific markets and the Americas.

"We are winning almost every deal around the world where people are offering certificates to a community," said Paddy Holohan, vice president of marketing.

The recent signings were Belgacom of Belgium, PTT Post of the Netherlands, the Norwegian Internet service provider Telenor, Uruguay Post, KMD of Denmark, 128i/The Hunter Group of New Zealand, DataMedia of Greece, Net at Work in Austria, and AlphaTrust of the United States.

AlphaTrust, a Dallas company that is developing an infrastructure for legally binding electronic commerce and risk management, chose Baltimore because of its "state of the art products and extensive global experience," said founder and chief executive officer Bill Brice.
