In Brief: Nebraska Names New Banking Regulator

Nebraska banker Sam Baird is slated to take over as the state's director of banking and finance on March 15.

Mr. Baird, who was appointed by Gov. Mike Johanns late last month, is currently president and chief executive officer of both Farmers State Bank and Trust Co. in Superior and Citizens State Bank of Polk. Nebraska law, however, will not allow Mr. Baird to keep his banking jobs while serving as regulator.

Mr. Baird has been active in industry circles, as president of the Nebraska Bankers Association in 1990 and as a past director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.
