In Brief: Montgomery Hires Former Deutsche Exec

NationsBanc Montgomery Securities said it hired C. Edward Carter, former chief executive of Deutsche Bank Securities Inc., as director of its consumer and retail investment bank business.

Mr. Carter resigned from Deutsche last month as the North American arm of Germany's Deutsche Bank AG reorganized its businesses ahead of Deutsche's merger with Bankers Trust Corp.

Mr. Carter will report to Carter McClelland, head of investment banking at NationsBanc Montgomery and a former co-head of investment banking at Deutsche. He is the latest hire by NationsBanc Montgomery as the investment banking business of BankAmerica Corp. attempts to build a full-service investment bank with operations in New York and San Francisco.

Carter will work with McClelland in the New York office, the company said. Before joining Deutsche in 1997, Carter worked for 16 years at Merrill Lynch & Co., the last two of which were as head of Merrill's consumer group.
