In Brief: Robertson Stephens Adds to Equity Staff

BancBoston Robertson Stephens, BankBoston Corp.'s securities subsidiary, announced several appointments to its equity sales and trading business Thursday.

The firm has hired John J. Cronin Jr. as a managing director in charge of its Boston sales and trading office. Mr. Cronin joins the firm from S.G. Cowen, where he worked for seven years in the Boston office, most recently as head of sales and trading. He reports to William W. Burke.

It has also hired Jim Clamage as a principal in its New York sales office. Mr. Clamage joins the firm from Bear, Stearns & Co., where he was managing director of institutional equity sales. Before that, he spent 12 years at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co.

Michael Crawford was hired as a vice president in the New York sales office. He joins from PaineWebber, where he was in the institutional equity sales group.

BancBoston Robertson Stephens has also promoted Mark Steele to principal and transferred him from convertibles to sales in the firm's San Francisco office. Mr. Steele has been with Robertson Stephens for seven years, and was with Montgomery Securities for the three years before that.

Mr. Clamage, Mr. Steele, and Mr. Crawford report to Tom Sheedy, managing director of institutional sales.
