Edward Jones Brokerage Plans to Have 10,000 Offices in 4 Years

Edward Jones & Co. said Thursday that it plans to more than double the number of its offices, to 10,000, over the next four years.

"We just see a great opportunity out there in serving the individual customer," said Douglas E. Hill, the chief operating officer of the St. Louis-based company.

Edward Jones, which generally uses single-broker offices, wants to add about 1,000 sales reps this year alone in the United States, which has the bulk of its 4,570 branches.

By the end of the year it plans to add 115 offices in Canada, for a total of 300, and 60 in the United Kingdom, for a total of 100.

"We're hiring and training 200 people a month," Mr. Hill said, but he added that not all those candidates make the cut and end up employed by the company.

Edward Jones serves about three million customers and offers products ranging from mutual funds to credit cards.
