Capital Briefs: Fed Proposes Easing Unpaid Check Return Rule

The Federal Reserve Board Monday proposed two options to make it easier for banks to return unpaid checks electronically.

Both would let banks send notices rather than the actual check. One would rely on provisions in the Uniform Commercial Code while the other would eliminate language in a regulation CC commentary that requires return of the physical check in many circumstances.

Comments are due April 30.
