IN BRIEF: New Illinois Governor Names Banking Chief

William A. Darr has been named Illinois' top banking regulator.

Mr. Darr took over as commissioner of banks and real estate at midmonth. He was director of the state Department of Seniors and Community Affairs in the secretary of state's office.

He is a longtime supporter of Gov. George H. Ryan, who took office in January after serving as secretary of state.

Gov. Ryan also named David Rodriguez as first deputy commissioner. Mr. Rodriguez was an assistant state attorney general specializing in revenue litigation.
