Mellon Names CEO, Operating Chief for L.A. Business Bank

Mellon 1st Business Bank, Los Angeles, a subsidiary of Pittsburgh's Mellon Bank Corp., has hired R. Daniel Woerner to be chief executive officer and promoted Klaus M. Schilling to chief operating officer.

Mr. Woerner was the president of Bank One Dayton, an Ohio subsidiary of Bank One Corp., Chicago. Before that he was president for the company's Louisville, Ky., market.

He came to the former Banc One Corp. of Columbus, Ohio, in 1992 from National Bank of Detroit, where he had been a vice president and division manager.

Mr. Schilling joined Mellon 1st Business Bank in 1987 and was promoted to regional vice president in its South Bay branch in 1989.

Both officers have more than 25 years' middle-market banking experience, and they have been elected to the West Coast bank's office of the chairman.

The office's other members are: Keith P. Russell, chairman of Mellon Financial Group-West Coast and a vice chairman of Mellon Bank Corp.; Robert W. Kummer, who continues as chairman of Mellon 1st; Joseph P. Sanford, the bank's president; and executive vice presidents W. Peter Bohn and Thomas F. Savage.
