Short Takes: N.Y. Life Unit Hires National Sales Manager

New York Life Benefit Services Inc., a retirement plan record keeper and administrator, has named a national sales manager.

Keith J. Purcell, previously a sales executive with Marriott International, the hotel company, joined the Norwood, Mass.-based business last month.

In the newly created position, he oversees 12 sales directors and a growing business. The amount of assets the company services grew 50% last year, to $4.5 billion in 300 retirement plans.

New York Life Benefit Services, a subsidiary of New York Life Insurance Co., does the majority of its administration work in the 401(k) business, with a small amount in the defined-benefit area.
