Short Takes: Hancock Offers Level Loads on 9 More Funds

John Hancock Funds said Tuesday that it has begun offering level-load shares for nine more of its mutual funds, bringing to 21 its funds with this pricing option.

The funds are the Financial Industries Fund, Regional Bank Fund, Special Equities Fund, European Equity Fund, Global Fund, Global Health Sciences Fund, Global Technology Fund, Pacific Basin Equities Fund, and Short-Term Strategic Income Fund.

Instead of charging a sales commission at the time of purchase or when shares are redeemed, level loads spread the cost over time.

Hancock's level-load shares have no back-end sales charges after a year, and they entail a 1% annual sales fee.

Boston-based Hancock has mutual fund assets under management of about $25 billion, plus $11 billion in private accounts and other products.
