In Brief: Standard Chartered to Use Tibco System in Asia

Standard Chartered Bank will become the first bank in Asia to use browser-based treasury software from Tibco Finance Technology Inc., a Reuters Group subsidiary.

Standard Chartered Bank customers will be able to conduct foreign exchange transactions on-line and gain access to the bank's market research and product information in real time.

"On-line Treasury is an important milestone for Singapore as well as for the bank as we press ahead with the development of Singapore into an international e-commerce hub," said Theresa Foo, chief executive officer of Standard Chartered Bank Singapore. "It supports the government's master plan to have half the businesses here using some form of e-commerce by 2003."
